Here's a picture of some of the fun we have had since we've been home. We love His waterfalls!
Things in Mahshie land have been especially crazy lately!
After our wonderful summer of traveling, we returned to our lovely base in Hendersonville. We love being here. The town is great, the people are great, and the scenery is unbelievably beautiful.
Here's what we expected to happen in this next season of life:
- Move into our cute and cozy 1920s cabin with our dog, Eastwood, and enjoy beginning a home together
- Nicole would work in Asheville with a photographer, and pursue freelance photography
- John would focus his efforts on Sermon Jams - making the site more dynamic and community oriented, he would work at our church in Asheville part time, and pursue ceramics with mentor Michael Sherrill
- Nicole would help with administrative things of sermon jams, such as e-mails, updates, and thank you notes
Here's What Actually Happened:
- We discovered water rot in the kitchen and had to completely gut the kitchen and the bathroom, making it impossible for us to stay at the cabin. We moved into John's Mom's down the road and have transported only the necessities to her guest room.
- Nicole's car broke down and we had to spend an unexpected $300 to fix it
- We've had to put our goals with Sermon Jams on hold to focus time, effort, and energy to restoring our cabin on a limited budget...and so John's been building websites and I have been freelancing.
It has been a struggle (especially for me, Nicole) to be at peace with such a change of plans. We are thankful to have a comfortable and close-by place to stay, but it is not without its challenges. We know that the Father loves us and that He knows what's up, and so we try to wait patiently for his provision.
Keep us in prayer, we know perseverance is born of such events, and from perseverance hope!

Nicole! I'm glad you stopped by our blog so I could check out yours, too.
Saw some pics (and a video) from your wedding -- man, it looks like it was a BLAST.
Sorry to hear about the unexpected bummers (as described on your blog), but you're married to John (or do ppl call him John Tony?) so come what may, you've got Jesus, you've got the man you love best...it's good.
Yeah, please do keep posting; it's a good way for us to keep up with you. We'll remember to pray for you guys and sermon jam. keep an eye out on our blog, too, baby coming sooooooon!
sending good vibes your way, too!
You have entered a new land Nicole. I believe that the "this is not what we expected or planned-ness" that you're experiencing is common territory among many Believers right now. Some good pointers for all of us.
#1 Put down your roots in God alone. All else will be shaken and will not stand.
#2 Rest in the reality of His being in control.
#3 Make wise decisions that have eternal, lasting consequences and results.
#4 Forever continue your journey as a married couple to exemplify Christ and His beautiful Bride.
Thanks for the updates! I'll check back often.
Thanks for sharing this. God always has a way of letting things occur to draw us even closer. I pray you stay encouraged and joyful in him!
So happy for you. Love and Prayers, Liz
